Literature Review / Research Paper Part 1 (see sample of entire paper on home page)
Students will type up a 4-page double-spaced essay titled, "Literature Review on [social issue or problem]" in which findings are stated with evidence cited within the text (internal citations). This literature review will become part of a group journal volume, based on a similar topic determined by each group in the class (all group work done in class). Each group will put together a title page for their "journal", a table of contents with the title for each students' article as a "chapter" in the group journal. In all, each group will have one chapter per student. No student shall be penalized for the work of other students' participation in the group. This is a separate assignment; groups only work together to discuss their ideas and offer each other constructive criticism and help.
Field Experience / Research Paper Paper 2
Introduction - where you explain the idea of what topic you would like to research from America or anywhere throughout the world, but be specific from the very beginning.
Hypothesis - there needs to be an assumption here that something causes something else or something has an effect on something else. Your goal is to find out if you are correct; though you do not fail if you find you are not correct. Thar is what research is about, create a solid hypothesis.
Research Questions - one to three questions you would like to use as a tool to help you find the answer to your hypothesis.
Findings - what you found in the 4 articles you read about the topic. You must mention each of the articles.
Analysis - your ideas about what the majority of the findings show in relation to your hypothesis.
Conclusion - there are always things that could help you find a more detailed answer to your hypothesis, so you are NEVER 100% sure that you are right or wrong. You discuss the analysis and findings, then you make a statement about the hypothesis, but use a qualifying word (wiggle room to be wrong). It seems that my hypothesis was true; however, there are some unknown variables that could change the supposed result. That is just an example of how you make something positively clear that you are right or wrong. It also may be that a couple of the articles help prove you correct and a couple do the opposite. You discuss that and then report that the hypothesis that there are mixed results to the hypothesis and give a statement as to what the reason MAY be that not all researchers agree. The grade is not about being right. It's about thinking out what you found, being clear, and being thorough.
References - At this point, you have already done the work for this part in your outline, just use APA format throughout the paper and the references section (see resources section of this website for help) and put them in alphabetical order.
Full Paper in two parts 20%
Insert Paper 1 at front of paper 2 both papers concern the same topic.
Paper 2 using the following subheads, as illustrated below.
Methodology - Explain what type of "field research" you used as a method and why you thought this method would help you get the best answers. Detail in order exactly what you did. First, I wrote all of the questions that seemed to help me answer my hypothesis, next, I used social media to find participants (never refer to them by name) either give them a fake name and say so, or call them Participant A, etc.
Discussion - Here you discuss what you found that was different than what the journal articles revealed and what was the same. Explain why you think it may be that way or perhaps they were the same, then say that. Use an interesting way to showcase your data (what you found out), such as charts, graphs, quotes, or perhaps include a related picture to make it interesting. Be sure that you find enough evidence to keep it up at four pages.
Limitations - Limitations are things that may have made your data appear wrong when it might not have been, such as surveying all 18-year-old girls about a topic they know little about. You would phrase it something like this: One limitation for this research is that the availability of participants was limited to mostly late teen-aged girls from the college. If the population of participants had been more random, I may have found different results. Try to think up at least three limitations. One guaranteed one, is that in a study such as this one, your sample population is very small compared to most research studies, so that limits the findings a great deal.
Future Research Possibilities - Always be open to tell the public how this study could be improved by perhaps centering on just one question or adding a specific question that you thought pf after interviews were finished and you began writing the findings. All good researchers include this section in their research because it is how research grows and scientific knowledge, what we know, keeps moving forward in all fields.
Final Conclusion - After viewing the data from the literature and the data from your field study, you believe that your hypothesis cannot be rejected or you reject your hypothesis because . . . or you may have mixed feelings about the conclusions because the participants had better reasons and I interviewed them in 2017, whereas, the articles came from 2010 - 2015. Times may be changing. Whatever you say, make it interesting.
References - When you hand in paper 2, include paper one at the beginning, take the references out of the end of paper 1 and put them at the end of paper 2.
